about

This track has Tolan McNeil's touch all over it, from the raw surf inflected guitar lines to the burbling insistent bass part he overdubbed to the in yo' face mix. Calvin Dick on the drums is an animal, there's plenty of accordion, and Hank Pine sets the tone with a creepy howling cello line at the head of the song.

lyrics

The moon is all drunk
she's in a heavenly funk
almost fell right out of the sky
And the sun quit burning
'cause his old heart was yearning
for a little bird
who fell into his fire

Stars choked in a smoking sky
Satellites quivering way up high
Stars choked in a smoking sky
Satellites quivering way up high

There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said
There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said
There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said

The moon is all drunk
she's in a heavenly funk
almost fell right out of the sky
And the sun quit burning
'cause his old heart was yearning
for a little bird
who fell into his fire

I dreamed that Jesus
I dreamed that Jesus
pulled me up into the sky
I was falling down deep into darkness
and it fell pretty good to fly

There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said
There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said
There's an ill wind blowing through a lot of empty heads
Lot of tongues a flapping and nothing much is said

The moon is all drunk
she's in a heavenly funk
almost fell right out of the sky
And the sun quit burning
'cause his old heart was yearning
for a little bird
who fell into his fire
