Grey Yodel #3

from Hurtin' Dance Party by David P. Smith

/

about

This is one of the tracks the band, assembled just that night, learned off the floor and recorded in 3 takes. Heralded by a 21 punch intro, It channels a Highway 61-ish energy and feel, driven by Tolan McNeil's bubbling, percussive guitar line and punctuated with a gritty harmonica break by Clay George, blowing through a Caliphone record player turned amplifier.

lyrics

Grey Yodel # 3

The old lady kills the heat when she goes to her deathbed
I got codeine tylenol rye whisky for my aching head
And I'm sitting in this kitchen chair going pretty fast....nowhere
My toxified body is creaking and groaning
Ghosts and demons are squeaking and moaning

Yodel

I had to see what was in the TV had to see what made it ooze
I talk a walk inside the TV with my TV walking shoes
There's a poison toad squirming in the road
There's a 24 hour weasel digging a great big hole
There's my Mama and my Daddy, Tinkerbell and the Beast
There's a m ade for TV movie 'bout a serial killing preist

Yodel

There's blood on the carpet there's a hole in my door
My clock says one million when it oughta say four
There's a hard rain a-falling, it's a hard hard rain
My legs are getting numb my skin is turning grey
I think I better take a trip right up to the sun
I'll just pack my lucky monkey and my magic ray gun

Yodel

I buried my cemetery suit 'neath that old smokestack
I was waiting for revenue man in a burning shack
When I dreamed I was a pig, they called me Mr. Big
I had young strong men fetching my swill
Was a soma robot wing ding an alien spacecraft hymn sing
toothless grampa skullgrin wish I knew just one thing
